Bruce Cockburn packed The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, this evening.
The seventy-six-year old troubadour drew from across his remarkable oeuvre—from “Let us Go Laughing,” written in the 1960s, and “In the Falling Dark” (off the 1976 studio album of the same name) to two songs “that came" last summer— playing two sets and an encore.
“When You Give it Away" (1999) begins with observations over breakfast in New Orleans.
But soon ventures further abroad, and deeper within.
“Trouble with the nations, trouble with relations
Where you going to go to find illumination?
Too much to carry, too much to let go
Time goes fast - learning goes slow”
“But I've got this thing in my heart
I must give you today
It only lives when you
Give it away”
