Absolutely terrific pictures, Ken, of the bird's magnificent plumage! (Is this the same bird?) We have become friends with a stubborn stoic heron at one stretch of the Oxford canal, who evokes alternately admiration, awe, fears of loneliness, and a model of patience. It seems to lack competitors.

Great pics of the heron! We have many here as well.......love those birds. They nest way up high in the trees here, with their chicks, in Beacon Hill Park.

Cameron, hugs, gracias! One of my favourite birds too. (Though I'd seen them aloft, flying over, between marshes and such, I wasn't expecting a heron in the centre of this city in particular.) I would love for you to walk me around your environs, high nests and all...

Such amazing photos of a beautiful beautiful bird. Love the close ups of her feet, the swirly pattern of the water. What an eye you have, Ken. You are such an artist. By the way, I borrowed two Amsterdam photos from you for a story recently. I wasn't sure if you saw it. Thanks so much for letting me feature them.
